On June 24, 2006, we (me and my friends Dave, Erik and Ron) did the Bath County sprint triathlon for the second year in a row. It was fun to see how I would do as a comparison to my very first triathlon -- and it was not great. I went into this thinking it would be a cakewalk after having done a half iron race in the intervening year. Wrong! A sprint is a totally different beast, and training in extended endurance does not necessarily translate into performance at the higher-heart rate sprint distance. I did shave a few minutes off my time, but I was hoping to improve on all three events, yet my swim was actually slower and my run just about the same.
Swim: 13:26
T1: 0:36 (2nd fastest overall! starting barefoot on the bike and wearing no wetsuit really helped here)
Bike: 38:10
T2: 0:32
Run: 25:32 (last year's was 26:11 but that included T2)
Total: 1:18:14
38/138 finishers
7/24 in 35-39 age group
Actually, looking at these numbers I guess I did better than I felt like I had at the time. . .
