I've been fascinated by fugues ever since I a) heard them in a recording I got from my dad of the Well-Tempered Clavier, the greatest work of art in any medium as far as I'm concerned, and b) read about them around the same time (1986) in the great book Gödel, Escher, Bach. Around then I also spent some time fooling around with the form, trying to make my own. Definitely gives you an appreciation for what the Master could do.
